And for 67 years this country was at the same level of the greatest powers of the 19th century. A military coup-d'état ended a golden age, and for the following years the early republicans would ask "why don't the people cut off the heads of all those who helped to declare the republic, including me? (Quintino Bocaiúva)"
The fall of the Brazilian monarchy was indeed a tragic event, sir.
