Thousands of Loyalists fled north of New England to Quebec and Nova Scotia. They were the first English-speaking migration of any size to populate Canada, the overwhelming majority of the earlier population being of French extraction. To this day there is a very active association of people descended from the early English-speaking settlers, viz; the United Empire Loyalists Association. I was not aware that there were 20,000 slaves involved in the exodus from the USA. A family legend posits that my ancestor Col. Hill brought two "permanently indentured servants" (as the documents so delicately put it) with him to Nova Scotia in the 1780's, a fact that is generally not discussed amongst the family nowadays!
Indeed, sir, and thank you!
