Flags These Days

The Black Book of CommunismWe can see flags flying on Labor Day. Considering what's documented in the Black Book of Communism, they should be flown at half-staff, which this blogger does.

Also, flags are flown today. It is Liberation Day, commemorating liberation in 1945.

I can assure you that a lot of flag poles that were not naked on May 1 are naked today. They celebrate totalitarianism, and not liberation from another totalitarianism. Traditionally, the public transportation service in Oslo carries Norwegian flags on May 1. It does not today.

All at the same time we are getting closer and closer to a 1984 society. Our Treasury Secretary reportedly announced at the end of last month upcoming measures against tax evasion, including measures against cash transactions.

We are moving closer and closer to a society with a degree of control that would have made Reichskommissar Terboven green of envy – if we are not already there.

There seems to be at least some consistency in that we do not fly our flags to commemorate the end of the Terboven regime.
