A Dozen Years

Today is the duodecennial anniversary of this weblog. A dozen years ago today, this blog was launched. It's the silk anniversary.

This blog was launched on the day of the promulgation of the constitutional amendment making parliamentarism a part of the written Constitution of the Kingdom of Norway, and that is also a dozen years ago. The amendment was passed in Parliament on February 20.

Feldkirch a Century Ago

A century ago today, the Austro-Hungarian Imperial and Royal Family arrived at the Austro-Swiss border in an Imperial train and departed Austria – under the protection of the icon of this weblog, Lt.-Col. Edward Lisle Strutt.

The day before, the family had departed Eckartsau, where they had been in internal exile.

At Feldkirch by the Austro-Swiss border, the Emperor proclaimed the Feldkirch Manifesto.

Thirty years ago today, Her Imperial and Royal Majesty Empress-Queen Zita passed from this world in her 97^th year. She had lived roughly half a month short of 67 years as Empress-Queen Dowager.

Fitzjames Stephen

125 years ago today, Sir James Fitzjames Stephen passed on.

Even so, [Stephen] -- believing as he did, with Tocqueville, that mass democracy was the inevitable future, whether it worked or not -- maintains that he has nothing to recommend as a substitute for universal suffrage. Hjort Passing at 50

50 years ago today, J.B. Hjort passed away.

J.B. Hjort wrote Justismord (Miscarriage of Justice), where he analyzed – amongst others – the “trials” against Anne Boleyn, King Charles I of England, Queen Marie Antoinette of France, and Prime Minster Selmer of Norway.

J.B. Hjort also wrote Demokrati og statsmakt (Democracy and State Power), where he addressed – although being guilty of abuse of the word democracy – the need for checks due to the vices of democracy.

He often wrote in Farmand, and he was an active opponent of a government-“developed” language.

The treaty affirmed – amongst other things – His Britannic Majesty's sovereignty over Québec. One might speculate in whether the King of France would have supported the American rebels were it not for this war.
